As the holidays approach, residents at Waterways are always thinking of ways to spread tidings of comfort and joy. Are you dreaming of a Waterways Christmas? Here’s our list of some of our favorite Waterways Holiday Happenings this year.
The Giving Tree
Over fifty resident families participated in this year’s Coastal Christmas Giving Tree, and over 100 gifts were donated! Organized together by the Waterways Owners Association and the Headwaters Sales and Marketing Office, our coastal themed Giving Tree was fully decked with tags that listed gifts that local children in need are wishing for this holiday season. Tags were provided by Family Promise of Bryan County, and we are thankful to our residents for being so generous in supporting this wonderful organization.
Wrapping Paper Fairy
All throughout December, a mysterious resident coined lovingly as the “Wrapping Paper Fairy” secretly left rolls of wrapping paper on all the other neighbors’ porches. Recipients were surprised and overjoyed by the thoughtful gesture in this season of giving!
Bryan County Santa Runs
Santa made a magical appearance in a firetruck on the night of December 4th! During this visit, his elves picked up unwrapped toys for Bryan County girls and boys, and he brightened the night for our Waterways kiddos. We love how our county spreads cheer during this time of year!
Ladies Ornament Exchange
On December 9th, over 60 resident ladies joined chef Eric Backer at our favorite local restaurant, Marker 107, for the second annual Waterways Ladies Ornament Exchange. Planned entirely by a group of residents, the event was a fun and festive way to celebrate the holidays with neighbors both known and new. Featuring delicious bites like low country dip and crostini, fried shrimp and chicken, and Marker shells and cheese, everyone enjoyed the food and fun. The event’s featured drink was a delicious medley of champagne, cranberry juice and Cointreau affectionately named “The Pink Towanda” after the favorite ornament at a previous year’s Exchange. Each attendee brought an ornament for the Dirty Santa format Exchange, and there were even fantastic door prizes from resident run businesses like Hygge, The Pet Spa, and Michelle Lynn Morris Photography.
Letters to Santa Box
Another very sweet resident set up a Letters to Santa Box in front of her home. All December long, the boys and girls of Waterways have dropped their letters to Santa into this box, and Santa himself has answered each letter. What a sweet tradition!
Long Creek Lights
Many Waterways residents love decorating their homes for the holidays, but one home in Waterways stands out among the rest. Cue Long Creek Lights, a spectacular light show featuring singing Christmas trees and other coordinated music and merriment in our Long Creek neighborhood of Waterways. This light show is a hit every year, and we are thankful for the family who works so hard to make it happen! To learn more, visit their Facebook or YouTube pages.
Other Holiday Events
From Cookie Exchanges to Christmas Eve gatherings, there are too many festive events to list here in Waterways. However, one event that we are really looking forward to this week is the Holiday Parade, Luminaries and Caroling event on December 21st! At 5pm, we will gather at Trellis Park and set out luminaries together. Then, we will parade around Trellis Park with festively decorated bikes, scooters, strollers, golf carts and twinkling sweaters. At around 5:45, Carolers will make their way through Waterways, and holiday treats will be offered along the way as the Carolers stop at homes with porch lights on. Those who aren’t caroling are encouraged to set luminaries down their sidewalks to usher in the holiday spirit and give a little extra light to our Carolers.
Thank you to all the residents who have done so much to brighten the holiday season here in Waterways!
